Golf in Alyth & Perthshire

Alyth, Perthshire and the surrounding area is a golfing Mecca with over 60 courses within an hour's drive. However, challenging and beautiful courses lie very close at hand.

Alyth Golf Club - Tel. 01828 632411

Situated 1 mile to the south east of Alyth on the B954 is the 100 year old heathland 18 hole course designed by James Braid. This is an excellent course with good bar and catering facilities. Par 70 (SSS 71), 6205 yards.

Glenisla Golf Course - Tel. 01828 632445

This scenic parkland course built in the 1990's is a good test of golf and lies across the B954 from Alyth GC. Although having more open fairways than Alyth GC, the naturally contoured fairways and water hazards present a serious challenge for experienced golfers from the back tees. Full clubhouse facilities. Par 71, 6245 yards.

Strathmore Golf Centre - Tel. 01828 633322

The two-course centre enjoys superb views down Strathmore and caters for golfers of all abilities. The 6490 yard Ranaleroch Course (Par 72) is testing and well designed while the 1719 yard, 9 hole Leitfie Links is a good choice for new golfers and those with less time on their hands. Full catering facilities are available as well as a driving range.

Blairgowrie - Tel. 01250 872622

There are two 18 hole and one 9 hole course in Blairgowrie, which is 5 miles from Alyth. All courses have moorland fairways that are lined by native trees including birch, larch and pine. The renowned Rosemount course (6588 yards, par 72) was designed by James Braid and the more recent Landsdowne course (6895 yards, par 72) was the work of Peter Allis and Dave Thomas. Both are highly regarded championship courses that are used for Open qualifying rounds. In addition there is the equally testing Wee course (4654 yards, SSS 63). All facilities are open to visitors although jacket, collar and tie are required in the dining room after 7pm.

These courses are a little further away but well worth a visit if you are in the area.

St. Andrews (33 miles) - Tel. 01334 475757

The home of golf with six 18 hole courses and one 9 hole course. The most famous is the “Old Course” which has to be booked in advance. A handicap certificate or letter of introduction is required to play the Old Course with players being selected by daily ballot. Even if you can't play the British Golf Museum is well worth a visit.

Carnoustie (30 miles) - Tel. 01241 853789

3 18 hole courses including the Championship course regarded as one of the toughest in Britain (6931 yds, SSS 71), the Burnside (6020 yds, SSS 69), and the Buddon (5196 yds, SSS 66).
